How excited am I about this book's release?
And the reasons are thus:
1.) Corey Rosen Schwartz rocks. She was one of my first online writer friends, and she is just one of the sweetest, most encouraging, nicest people ever. Also. She writes a mean picture book. And she rhymes really well.
2.) It's illustrated by Dan Santat, and I adore his illustrations.
3.) Female Ninja Pig. Enough said.
4.) The Pea is going to love it. It combines so many of his favorite things. Rhyme. Puns. Ninjas. Pigs.
5.) This book trailer
How cute is this! Why do pigs make such fun characters? It reminds me of the Olivia books - some of my favs! Wish I had a little one just so I could buy it. Maybe I could buy it anyway and save it for grandkids. Will it be faded and yellow in 10-12 years?

DeleteThe trailer is fabulous. I adore mash-ups, and I have to admit, my very favorite word to play in Apples to Apples is by far "ninja." This might be just the thing to give to my daughter's school library. Her younger schoolmates would adore it.

ReplyDeleteI think this book trailer is a little disappointing though. It comes across as The Three Little Pigs set in Japan. I realize that the trailer can't give away too much for a picture book, but I would have liked to see less about the house structures (straight from the original) and more about ninjas because, we'll, ninja pigs!
See, I LOVED the trailer. I think it is hard with picture books, to give away the flavor without the plot (as most PB's are under 500 words, total). I liked how it felt like found footage of an old Japanese movie.

DeleteMy copy came in the mail today and I can't wait to read it as soon as I wrestle it away from my kiddos who snagged it as soon as I opened it. Corey is the nicest person and I am so excited for her and this adorable read!
